Greg “The Great” Pizzolato
Tour Guide of the Week this time around is Greg Pizzolato, a great individual who is certainly ‘grandfathered’ into our team here at Six Foot Bubble™ and Human On A Stick Segway Tours.
“As a tourist, every time I went on a tour, I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I’d really like to be a tour guide!’ Meeting different people every day, and sharing interesting content with people genuinely interested,” says Pizzolato. “In retirement I get to do just that every day. Yep, I’m living my dream!”
As a former teacher and elementary school administrator, Pizzolato knew he wanted to be an educator ever since he was a young kid. For over 40 years he worked in parochial schools in Chicago, Phoenix, and the Twin Cities.
In retirement, he became a Segway tour guide. After nine years with Human On A Stick, he still claims it is his dream job.
“It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” explains Pizzolato. “It’s outdoors, using cutting edge technology, during great weather seasons, and gives me the opportunity to meet different people every day.”
Born and raised in Chicago, Pizzolato remembers traveling to Minnesota and admiring the trees, as well as MN’s Paul Bunyan tales. Now he’s lived in the Twin Cities for the majority of his adult life and has raised seven children, who now collectively have 10 children on their own.
In Pizzolato’s retirement he enjoys golf and reading, especially history, in addition to guiding Segway tours.
“I enjoy studying history that dispels the popular myths and misconceptions about our past,” says Pizzolato. “Even our local history is often enmeshed in local lore and legend as so much of it has been passed down orally. Usually the real facts are actually more interesting than the legend.”
Pizzolato leads many Segway tours in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and this summer he also put in a lot of work at converting Saint Paul’s Cathedral Hill Segway tour to a socially-distanced, Cathedral Hill walking tour through Six Foot Bubble™.
